A Poem For Blanca

A poem about my mom, that I originally wrote in the 7th grade

By Madonna Hernandez

Beware of the high tide,
During these hours the sea is most dangerous.
Though at some moments
the ocean seems calm and quiet,
she tricks you.

The waters are often shined upon by
heavenly light from above. This is when
joy, happiness and serenity fill the air; when she’s at her best.

Many huge waves crash against her ocean floor;
In these times, roars of laughter echo from deep within her soul.

The waters can be choppy and move constantly;
She loves to talk and express herself.

People love her. She’s warm and inviting.

She’s big, beautiful and peaceful,
when she wants to be.

Don’t be fooled,
She’s also very unpredictable.
